AWARD OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF MEDICINE OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS
The Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands opens a call to grant, during the year 2023, the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands Award, corresponding Academic title and €1,000, to the author of the best paper presented on a Medicine topic or Related Sciences in any of their specialties.
MATEU ORFILA AWARD, IN THE CAREER OF A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL
At the request of a health institution of the Balearic Islands, the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands announces the Mateu Orfila Award for the career of a health professional and awards a diploma to the winner.
SPONSORED PRIZES
Likewise, the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands jointly announces the following prizes, endowed with €1,500 and a diploma to the first signatory:
Jean Dausset Award, from the Illustrious Official Medical College of the Balearic Islands, for the best thesis in Medicine or related Sciences prepared in the Balearic Islands and defended during the year 2022.
Doctor Ramón Rotger Moner Award, for the best study on surgery and surgical specialties.
Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Award, for the best study on medical specialties.
Balearic Islands Official College of Nursing Award, for the best nursing research study in any of its fields.
Balearic Islands Official College of Pharmacists Award for the best research study in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
ADEMA Award for the best oral health and nutrition research study.
Laboratorio Dr. Cortés Award for the best publication on gynecological oncology by professionals based in the Balearic Islands.
RESEARCH GRANT IN ONCOLOGY
The Royal Academy jointly calls for Oncology Research Grants for professionals or working groups based in the Balearic Islands and promoted by the Balearic Islands Provincial Board of the Spanish Association against Cancer.
THE AWARDING OF PRIZES WILL BE GOVERNED BY THE FOLLOWING BASES
- The Jean Dausset Prize will be awarded to the best doctoral thesis in Medicine or related Sciences prepared in the Balearic Islands and defended during the year 2022. The award will be agreed by the Royal Academy and the Official Medical College of the Balearic Islands between proposals received before November 1, 2023.
- The Mateu Orfila Prize will be awarded to a health professional selected from among the curricula proposed by the entities of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands that are related to Health Sciences. Proposals and CVs must be submitted before November 1, 2023.
- The call for Oncology Research Grants promoted by the Provincial Board of the Balearic Islands of the Spanish Association against Cancer has specific bases, accessible through the website of the AECC of the Balearic Islands.
- Doctors or graduates in Medicine or Related Sciences belonging to countries of the European Union may compete for the prizes. Numerary, honorary, emeritus or supernumerary Academicians of the Royal Academies of Medicine of Spain will not be able to attend this contest. Applicants must submit their work before November 1, 2023. Sponsors may disclose the contest rules for each of the awards in the media they deem appropriate.
- The works that qualify for the prizes cannot be presented simultaneously to other contests or have already been awarded. Likewise, they must be original and unpublished, not being accepted those that at the time of awarding have been totally or partially published.
- The works must be written in Word program, to a space and a half. The extension of the originals must be a minimum of 20 sheets and a maximum of 40 DIN A4 sheets on one side, including in the text, bibliography or documentary references, as well as complementary iconography. Up to six figures and six tables will be accepted. A maximum of 35 bibliographical references will be included. The title, keywords and structured abstract in Catalan or Spanish and English must be included, of about 250 words.
- The originals, written in Catalan, Spanish or English, will be transmitted in PDF format to the email address of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands (inforamib@gmail.com) before 11:59 p.m. of October 31, 2023.
The subject of the email will contain the name of the research prize for which the contest is being held.
In order to guarantee anonymity, two files will be sent attached:
File 1: It will contain the complete text of the work, without any data that allows identifying the authorship. On the first page there must appear a motto or pseudonym and the name of the prize for which the competition is being held. The name of this file will coincide with the chosen motto or pseudonym.
File 2: The name of this second file will be “Data” and it will include the following information:
– Title of the study.
– Motto or pseudonym chosen.
– Name of the authors.
– Contact information, address and telephone.
- Due to their characteristics,
- The doctoral theses that compete for the Jean Dausset Award will not be presented with the motto and escrow system, since their reading has been public, and they will be presented by means of a copy addressed to the corporate email.
- The works that opt for to the Dr Cortés Laboratory Award will be presented through a link to access the document, in a message addressed to the corporate email.
- In those cases that the Royal Academy deems appropriate, due to the content of the work presented, it may assign it to compete for the prize closest to that one.
- The prizes will be voted in an extraordinary government session of the Royal Academy, following a report from the corresponding Commission. In sponsored awards, a representative designated by the sponsor may participate, with voice but without vote, in the deliberations of the evaluation section.
- The decision of the contest will be final and will be made public by the means of communication that the Royal Academy deems appropriate. It will also be officially communicated to the first signatory author of the winning works.
- The awards ceremony will take place in the Solemn Opening Session of the 2022 Academic year.
- In the event that the work awarded the Royal Academy Award is signed by more than one author, the Corresponding Academic title will only be awarded, obligatorily, to the first signatory.
- The winning works will remain the property of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands, which may publish them in its journal Academic Journal of Health Science / Medicina Balear.
- The prizes may not be divided but may be declared void, in which case the amount of the sponsored prizes will go to scholarships awarded by a contest called for that purpose.
- The participation in this contest implies full acceptance of the rules of this call, the exclusive interpretation of which will be that of the Royal Academy.
- Any situation of conflict of interest of the members of the evaluation team with the studies presented must be previously declared. In this case, the affected member will not be able to evaluate the presented study.
